A simple application of toothpaste can eliminate problem zits or spots fast!

There are various creams, gels and washes available claiming to remove spots, but none is as cheap, as convenient and as effective as the ordinary toothpaste.

Because every home will have a tube available for oral hygiene purposes anyway, treating problem spots with toothpaste is simple and easy.

Why Spots Appear

Spots usually appear unannounced in a prominent part of the face, either on the forehead, nose, chin or cheek. This may be down to:

  • A build up oil or bacteria in the affected area, maybe as a result of bangs/fringe over the forehead
  • Hormones during particular times of the month e.g. monthly periods or pregnancy
  • Eating certain foods containing lots of fats and oils like Pizza or other fried foods
  • Stress may cause pimples
  • Puberty causes teenagers to break out in spots as part of the growing process

Application of Toothpaste

When a spot with a whitehead appears, applying toothpaste (any kind will work) directly unto it will dry it out. Just dab a tiny amount on top of the spot and leave it there for around two to three hours or before going to bed at night.

The toothpaste will harden over the spot, and when you're ready to remove it, simply peel or clean off with a wet-wipe.

By this time the toothpaste would have dried out the whitehead and you can peel off the now-dried skin with your finger. It should come off easily leaving a shallower spot without a 'head', which is much less prominent.

After a day or so, because the whitehead has been dried off the spot will also eventually recede back into the skin and disappear altogether.

If the whitehead is still there, repeat the toothpaste application again.

Why Toothpaste Works on Whiteheads

The type of spots that can be eliminated with toothpaste are those with a whitehead. These whiteheads, literally a spot with a white 'head' on it are usually filled with puss (sebum).

An active ingredient in toothpaste is fluoride which is mildly acidic (so that it can clean teeth and fight tooth decay) and this corrodes the whitehead and dries out the gathered pus which can then be picked off.

Toothpaste also has an anti-bacterial ingredient that washes teeth but this also clears any bacteria on the pimple.

Types of Spots that Toothpaste Doesn't Remove

Widespread acne that appears all over the face, back or other areas of the body will need more intensive treatments and toothpaste is not a suitable solution.

Also, blackheads that don't contain any gathered pus cannot be removed by using toothpaste either, and avoid using toothpaste if you have dry skin, as it'll dry the pimple and possibly your skin even more.

Only zits or spots with whiteheads, the type that appear suddenly on its own and on normally clear skin can be removed by toothpaste.

Conclusion - It Works!

Toothpaste is a cheap, quick and easy treatment for whiteheads. Although other treatments should be used if the pimples persist and for more serious outbreaks of acne, using toothpaste is an effective alternative to expensive creams- and it works!
